Dear Editor:
As a reader of both the Rockridge News and Rockridge Voice, I’m thrilled that we have multiple hyper-local publications that cover our neighborhood. I would be equally pleased to see a range of opinions expressed in both publications. Unfortunately, nearly all the pieces published by Rockridge Voice appear to oppose any new development.
I am sure my neighbors aren’t as anti-housing as this anecdotal evidence indicates. I would love to believe that we are aware of our area’s housing crisis and want our neighborhood to be part of the solution, rather than leaving it to other parts of the Bay that have fewer local advocates and, let’s face it, lower property values. I can imagine that these contributors are simply concerned about the specific large buildings that are currently proposed.
With that said, I hope to see more articles and letters by neighbors that say what they are for, rather than simply what they are against. How can Rockridge be part of the housing solution? Where should we build multifamily homes? How can we grow our stock of rental housing? How can we welcome more neighbors from diverse backgrounds? How can we be good citizens of the Bay Area and offer our considerable resources to improving the lives of others?
I look forward to more of these kinds of submissions to Rockridge Voice. I’ll be reading!
Wishing all the best to Anna and the team,
