Dear Editor:
I am very concerned about the proposal to demolish the Rockridge Trader Joe’s at 5727 College Avenue and replace it with two towers up to 31 stories—with no replacement grocery and zero affordable homes, on a block where the height limit is 95 feet.
I am a senior, and I walk to Trader Joe’s several times a week. It’s where I get most of my groceries. And it's the store where an important and much-needed union organizing effort is ongoing.
Neighbors deserve a real public conversation about a project this size with an effect so hurtful, and before it is fast-tracked under State streamlining laws.
