RIN, whose name means “water” in Thai, embodies calm energy—and Pisara Saluk channels that serenity into every massage session at her new wellness center, RIN Wellness and Spa: Immortal Life. “I want to deliver great, positive energy to the customer,” she says. All of her staff are certified massage therapists from California, and she currently employs five skilled professionals.

Hailing from northern Thailand, Pisara grew up surrounded by a culture that cherishes massage. “Like all kids, I tried to massage my mom, my dad,” she recalls. “I knew from a young age that this was something I wanted to do.”

Before opening her wellness center, Pisara spent nearly 13 years running a Japanese restaurant in Emeryville, inspired by her fascination with Japanese culture and longevity. “I believe Japanese people live long lives because of the way they eat and take care of themselves,” she explains, “because you are what you eat. If you treat yourself well, you can expect to live maybe like 100 years.”

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Bangkok, and, after continuing her education in Sydney, Australia, she moved to San Francisco to complete a master’s in marketing at Golden Gate University. She initially worked as a brand manager in skincare, helping small businesses promote themselves—a skill set she now applies to her wellness business.

“I do everything myself here: the website, advertising, social media. I love it,” Pisara says. Her commitment extends to multiple social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Google Business, TripAdvisor, and Nextdoor, ensuring that her clients know they are welcomed. Pisara is an entrepreneur with big plans. “I want to create a skincare brand,” she shares.

Her practice offers more than relaxation—it’s a holistic approach to wellness. One of Pisara’s therapists boasts over 30 years of experience, and all staff maintain rigorous certification requirements, including at least 500 hours of training. Pricing reflects the expertise of the therapists. “People ask me why it’s expensive. I say you’re paying for their value — our professionals deliver great energy for the customer,” Pisara explains.

Switching from a demanding restaurant business to massage therapy was a deliberate choice. “I wanted something that allowed for a more personal life, and takes care of the community,” she says. Pisara emphasizes the long-term benefits of massage. “It’s not something you do once and you’re done. Little by little, over time, it helps relax your muscles, improve joint health, and relieve pain. It’s about both body mechanics and energy transfer—you can really feel the difference.”

Her vision extends to the center’s physical space. Pisara loves the building’s unique architecture. “It’s not American, it’s not Asian—it’s something that drew me in. I said, ‘I’m going to make it work,’ and we did.”

The 853-square-foot location has been remodeled into a pristine, cozy space that welcomes everyone, including those with mobility issues (she installed a lift to allow access from the back entrance). The building also features a patio and garden area, where clients can sip herbal tea and decompress after a session.

Pisara loves the neighborhood, and has already visited other merchants with plans of cross marketing. The wellness center is now open five days a week, and for the grand opening (see announcement below), Pisara plans to serve sushi with the help of two chefs — bringing the joy of her previous culinary career to her new venture.

Through her work, Pisara has found a new way to connect with her community. “I love seeing people on the street walking their dogs, and talking with them. That’s how I like it,” she says.
