Rockridge neighbors are invited to come together on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 5pm to 8pm for National Night Out, an annual community-building event that encourages residents to strengthen neighborhood connections while promoting public safety.
Whether it's a block party, barbecue, ice cream social, or potluck, National Night Out offers an opportunity for neighbors to connect and celebrate the communities they call home. Regardless of the format, gatherings shares the same goal: building stronger neighborhood connections.
This year's National Night Out theme is "Town Nights – Celebrating Safe Spaces in the Town."
Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out is a nationwide campaign that brings millions of neighbors together each year to build community spirit, strengthen relationships, and support crime prevention efforts. Research consistently shows that neighborhoods where residents know and look out for one another are safer and more resilient.
"National Night Out is more than a single evening of celebration—it's an investment in stronger, safer neighborhoods," organizers said. "By gathering with neighbors, turning on porch lights, and spending time together outdoors, residents send a clear message that their community is connected, engaged, and looking out for one another."
City of Oakland staff, members of the Oakland Fire Department and Oakland Police Department, and elected officials will visit as many registered neighborhood gatherings as possible throughout the evening.
