Temescal Art Week, a new weeklong celebration organized by the Temescal Art Community (TACo), will take place October 3–10, showcasing the neighborhood’s vibrant and diverse arts community.
The inaugural event will feature a dozen artistic venues, with a different destination each night offering opportunities for residents and visitors to participate in interactive art-making and creative activities.
“The vision for the event is that it will be a week of art, made by and for the Temescal community,” says sculptor and TACo member Deborah Samia. “We believe creativity heals—and when we create together, we build a community that’s stronger, more resilient, and more whole.”
Featured venues include East Bay Creative Reuse Depot, Studio One Art Center, Oakland’s only publicly funded art center, Temescal Arts Center, Poems.n.Paper, art exhibitions in local religious congregations, and a large-scale textile painting activity at MacArthur Commons.
TACo, a group of about 30 artists and arts supporters who live in Temescal and surrounding neighborhoods, created the event to celebrate and strengthen the community’s connection to the arts.
