Named for St. Augustine of Hippo, whose feast day is celebrated each year in late August, the parish has marked the occasion for decades with community celebrations ranging from carnivals and potlucks to pancake breakfasts, barbecues, and Mediterranean feasts.
This year’s Feast-ival will feature a free catered vegetarian Indian meal, welcoming neighbors, families, and visitors to gather for food, fellowship, and conversation. The event is open to everyone—whether you’re a longtime parishioner, a first-time visitor, or simply looking to meet your neighbors.

“Our Feast-ival isn’t a fundraiser—it’s a gift to the community,” said parish organizers. “It’s like a neighborhood block party where everyone has a seat at the table. We invite people to come enjoy a delicious meal, reconnect with friends, meet new neighbors, and experience the warm hospitality that defines St. Augustine’s.”
The parish is extending a special invitation to the wider Rockridge community following a neighborhood town hall held at the church in July. For many attendees, it was their first visit to the campus, and they discovered a welcoming gathering place for the neighborhood. Organizers hope this year's Feast-ival will encourage even more residents to experience the church's beautiful grounds, meet their neighbors, and enjoy a shared meal.
In addition to worship, St. Augustine is active in community service and social justice through Faith in Action East Bay, working on issues such as neighborhood safety, illegal dumping, immigration, gun violence prevention, environmental justice, and other local concerns. The parish welcomes people of all beliefs to participate in its community life.
The Feast-ival is free and open to the public. Children are welcome, and families can enjoy the church playground during the celebration. For more information, contact the parish office at 510-653-8631 or visit staugustineoakland.com.
